Thank You Poem
Today, as most weekdays, I needed to get some exercise outside. Where I live in northern Illinois, I have a beautiful path along a large river on which to walk. The path is surrounded with all types of terrain and foliage within the 4 miles that I cover. I could tell it was ready to rain before I left, but that never stops me. This Thank You Poem is written on behalf of my little forest. I wrote:
Anew
My path is here, my time is now. Me an observer
Rain clouds above, with clustered shoulders together
Look down as student doctors in an operating gallery
Sun still piercing through in observational defiance
My stride indifferent to outcome of drama above
Sky droplets soothe on sweated and heated skin
The forest takes on a silent character, free from sun's reign
Leaves wash sunlight from their surface and reveal their independence
Deer and squirrels show themselves from release of sun's guardianship
Life is aware of itself and freed from oppressive oneness of light
Appreciation of everything of itself is everywhere in solitude
Upon release of sun from clouds, the forest is better of itself
For having experienced itself, but now rejoined together with all life
In light.
I like this, because it expresses, the feeling of appreciation that I had while running through the forest. It reminded me how I feel better amidst crowds of people after I have had a little time to myself in which to reflect. This particular day, during the rain my vision was just more lucid and the forest had a different attitude of being indifferent to the experience of "bad" weather and my ability to appreciate was heightened. This poem but 45 minutes after this occurence.
I hope you like it. I'd love to hear your comments.
